About 10 months ago, I made this SKATERS AGAINST HOMOPHOBIA piece.  You can click that link to get the full backstory (and an anecdote about why I personally decided that using gay slurs in ANY context is stupid and harmful), but the main point is: as a skateboarder, I’m getting pretty sick of us skaters using “faggot” and “gay” as go-to insults.  We’re always talking about how open-minded and creative and better-than-everybody-else we are, but we can’t seem to cut the homophobic bullshit.  Despite what Target and Mountain Dew want us to think, traditionally, skateboarding’s for rebels and outsiders.  So why are we so quick to jump in line with the old-money, religious-right establishment when it comes to our view on gay people?  Fuck that.So I whipped up a graphic to lay that out.  A lot of people seemed really into it (it was awesome to hear how much my tiny gesture meant to a bunch of gay skaters and even a couple of trans skaters who reached out to me), and people wanted it made into tee shirts and stuff.
Well, after some thinking, I decided the best thing to do (ie: the thing that’d do the most good and avoid me making a profit off something that I, ethically,  really shouldn’t be making a profit from) is TO OFFER THE GRAPHIC UP FREE AS A PUBLIC DOMAIN IMAGE to anybody who wants if for personal use or to raise money for any LGBTQ- and/or skateboarding-related causes.  NOT-FOR-PROFIT ONLY PLEASE.
EXAMPLE: Wanna print up some tee shirts for you and your homies to wear at Pride?  Be my guest.EXAMPLE: Wanna sell coffee mugs with this graphic on them to raise money for your high school’s Gay/Straight Alliance Club?  Awesome!EXAMPLE: Wanna sell prints of this graphic to raise money for a local skatepark?  We got no problem here.EXAMPLE: Wanna print this graphic on a hoody and sell it for weed money?  PROBLEM.  DON’T DO THAT SHIT.Basically, be cool, don’t be a dick.  Spread this around and use the #skatersagainsthomophobia tag.  Do awesome shit with it!
The homies at Antique Skate Shop are printing shirts for a Pride event they’re throwing together and they’re also selling some to raise money for a downtown skatepark they’re building.
HOW TO DOWNLOAD THE HIGH-RES FILES:The homies at BRUISED TONGUE RECORDS (check them out if you like weird punk, noise punk, garage punk, psyche punk, party punk, and just good shit in general) are hosting the images.  Go to http://bruisedtongue.com/redeem and enter the code: benjensen (BT chose the code; I’m not some kinda egomanaiac).

Ben Jensen is doing good things.
